A dazzlingly-inspiring touching social drama, an extraordinary  lovable film that holds life's beauty in it. 'Beaches' is certainly an outstanding piece of art that captures everyone's heart and emotions, the way it captured the nomination for the Best Art Direction from the Academy Awards in 1988.

The story, adapted from 's novel, is very simple. Two little girls from different towns in the United States get to meet one day on sandy summer beaches. Cecilia Carol Bloom wishes to be a famous performer and comes from an ordinary family and Hillary Whitney Essex comes from a rich aristocratic background. The two girls become friends and promise to write to each other regularly. Surprisingly, they stay in touch and days go by.

Flamboyant Cecilia, played by glorious Bette Midler, becomes older and her wish comes true. While Hillary, played by , becomes a lawyer and gets married. After all this time, the two friends meet and depart again. Suddenly, some changes take place in Hillary's life: she gives birth to a girl and gets divorced, followed by her serious illness...And that is where Cecilia sticks by her. They move together in the same town but, this time they are meant to stay together for as long as life takes them, and they both sail through life's miseries and sadness; helping each other to land on safe shores. How are they going to face difficult circumstances? And what is going to happen  in the end? The movie shows the various stages of their friendship and their romances including their love for the same man.

The two pals devote themselves and their lives to help each other through all the ups and downs...They come and go, fight and quarrel but their true friendship lasts and defeats all the problems, which is obviously the moral of the film.

, the director, did a very perfect job by enriching the final scene, which is so touching, with Midler's amazing songs that bring tears to your eyes. The film's end is totally unexpected concerning ordinary friends, but for the real strong friendship shown in the film, it seems that the end is what is supposed to be, especially with the convincing and stunning performance of the two mesmerizing ladies.

Finally, what I want to say is that this film is worth watching, because it is a symbol for the true friendship that we all should have in our lives...The kind of friendship that helps us through our tough life's path and never letting us down.
